Undergraduate FAQ

What are my responsibilities as a student?
As an advisee, it’s your responsibility to:

  1. Meet with your advisor regularly (usually at least once per semester). Plan ahead for peak registration times. Turn off your cell phone during appointments!
  2. Seek help from your advisor regarding your academic degree progress and ask questions if something is unclear.
  3. Actively prepare for advising sessions and bring relevant information and materials to advising sessions. Follow through on recommendations and referrals.
  4. Be familiar with the policies, procedures and curricular requirements for your chosen program(s) of study. Read the undergraduate catalog and Student Guide to University Policies.
  5. Use the UDSIS system to register for classes and monitor your academic progress.
  6. Read email communications from all University offices, including the Lerner Advisement Office.
  7. Understand that you are ultimately responsible for the academic choices and decisions you make.
What are my Advisor's responsibilities?
Your advisor has the responsibility to:

  1. Help you develop educational goals consistent with your interests and abilities.
  2. Provide and explain information related to University policies, procedures and curricular requirements for the Lerner College’s majors and minors.
  3. Help you monitor your academic progress (via UDSIS, accurate degree requirement check sheets, regular appointments, sophomore degree audit checks, mid-term grade communications during freshman year, senior check-outs, etc.).
  4. Help you select courses. Explain the UDSIS registration process.
  5. Keep regular office hours for advising sessions and respond to your emails and phone calls in a timely fashion. (Please allow at least 2 business days for a response to emails and phone calls; longer during peak registration times.)
  6. Tell you about University resources and special academic opportunities; refer you to other University support offices when appropriate.
What is the Business Undeclared Policy?

All “business undeclared” students are required to declare a major within the Lerner College.

Deadlines to Declare or Change Major

  • New freshmen admitted in the fall: Oct.1 of sophomore year

Can I transfer credits?

The Alfred Lerner College of Business & Economics will only accept business credits from other AACSB-accredited institutions. Transfer credits are subject to evaluation by the departments.

Follow these steps BEFORE enrolling in a course at another institution:

Step 1:  Check the Transfer Credit Matrix to see if the course you plan on taking has a UD equivalency: www.udel.edu/transfercredit.  If the course is in the matrix, go to Step 2 below.

No equivalency in the matrix?  Visit www.udel.edu/registrar/transfer/transins and go to Step 3 under the Procedure section for the departmental contact and the course information you will need to provide.  If/when approved, attach a copy of email to the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form and go to Step 2 below.

Step 2:  Read and fill out the Transfer Credit Evaluation Form (PDF) in ink.  Drop it off at the front desk in 103 Lerner Hall for the Assistant Dean’s approval.

Step 3:  Next business day, pick up the approved form and deliver it to the Registrar’s Office – University Visitors Center, across from the Morris Library.

Step 4:  Once you have completed the course, ask to have an official* transcript sent directly to UD’s Registrar’s Office:

Registrar – Transfer Credit

University of Delaware

210 South College Avenue

Newark, DE 19716

*UD also accepts electronic transcripts that are password protected – please send any electronic transcript directly to transfercredit@udel.edu.

Step 5:  Review your Transfer Credit Report on UDSIS (located on the drop-down menu under ‘Academics’) to make sure your transfer credits are posted.
